Preparation:Halve 1 kg (2.2 lb) prickly pears (about 8) lengthwise, scoop out the pulp, and chop with a knife. Place in a saucepan and add 1/2 cup sugar; let sit for about 5 minutes, until the juices release. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat. Mash the fruit and let sit for 10 minutes. Strain through a fine sieve and refrigerate the syrup for 1 hour. Combine the chilled syrup in a pitcher with 1 1/2 cups tequila, 1 cup orange juice, and 1/2 cup lime juice.
