Homemade White Sauce Mix topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of skim milk powder
- 1 cup wheat flour
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 1 cup (230 g) butter (margarine or vegetable oil)
- 1/8 tsp ground white pepper
Preparation:
- In a medium bowl, combine dry milk, flour and salt, whisking until thoroughly combined.
- Using a pastry cutter or two knives, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles cornmeal.
- Place the mixture in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator. Use the white sauce mixture within 2 months.
- To make white sauce, combine 1/2 cup white sauce mixture and 1 cup cold water in a small saucepan.
- Simmer the sauce over low heat until smooth, whisking constantly. Season to taste. You'll get about 1 cup of classic white sauce.
