Banana Foster

topcook.tomathouse.com

Ingredients:

  • 110 g salted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 cups heavy cream
  • 2 bananas
  • 0.5 cup chopped walnuts
  • 0.5 cups dark rum
  • A pinch of ground cinnamon
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving

Preparation:

  1. Melt the butter in a heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat. Add the brown sugar, stir, and cook for 1–2 minutes. Pour in the heavy cream and stir.
  2. Peel the bananas and slice them diagonally. Toss the banana slices into the pan. Then add the chopped nuts and stir them into the sauce. Next, pour in the rum. Be careful here. As soon as it starts to boil, ignite it with a long lighter (be sure to keep the lid handy in case you need to extinguish the flame).
  3. Let the flame burn down (this usually takes no more than 30 seconds), and finally stir in the cinnamon. You can also cook the bananas without flambéing.
  4. Spoon bananas foster over a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream and enjoy!

Bananas Foster can be eaten with French toast, waffles, or pancakes. You can also substitute peaches, pears, or cherries for the bananas.
