Pizza in a frying pan topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 4 tbsp. l. olive oil
- 450 g sweet or hot Italian sausage, thinly sliced (about 8 sausages)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 450 g fresh pizza dough, room temperature
- 280 g dry whole milk mozzarella, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp of any marinara sauce or 1.5 cups of mashed and strained San Marzano tomatoes
- 3 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 tbsp. l. dried oregano
- 0.5 tbsp. grated parmesan
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 200°C. Heat a skillet over medium heat with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Fry the sausages until browned on all sides, 8-10 minutes.
- Grease the inside of a 12-inch cast iron skillet. Place the pizza dough in the center and spread it evenly toward the bottom and up 1.5 inches (4 cm) of the sides.
- The order of the layers is crucial for a crispy pizza crust. Start with the sausage. Evenly arrange the sausage slices on the crust, followed by the mozzarella and marinara sauce. Top with garlic and oregano. Finally, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and drizzle with the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
- Place the pizza pan on the bottom rack of the oven and bake until the edges are golden and crispy, 30-35 minutes. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
