Sloppy Joe's Burger with Cincinnati Turkey Chili topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 1 package (340 g) frozen Tater Tots
- 1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 small white onion, finely chopped
- 450 g of ground turkey
- 1 tbsp. chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon apple pie spice or ground cinnamon
- 0.5 cup chili sauce (e.g. Heinz)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 4 soft hamburger buns, lightly toasted
- 1 cup grated sharp cheddar
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 220°C. Place potato balls on a baking sheet and bake until crispy, 20-25 minutes.
- Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add most of the white onion, reserving 1/4 cup; cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
- Add the ground turkey, chili powder, pie spice, a large pinch of salt, and some freshly ground black pepper. Cook, stirring and breaking up the ground turkey, until the turkey is well browned, 4 to 5 minutes. Add the chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and 1/2 cup water; stir to combine. Reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring frequently, until the turkey is cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly, 3 to 5 minutes; season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Spread the meat filling over the bottom halves of the buns. Sprinkle with grated cheese and the remaining finely chopped onion, and top with the bun tops. Serve with potato balls.
