Ingredients:
Casserole
- 230 gr. macaron cones
- 3 tbsp (45 g) butter
- 3 tbsp. flour
- 1 tbsp mustard powder
- 3 cups of milk
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1 large egg
- 340 g grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon of table salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 180C.
- In a large pot of boiling, salted water, cook the pasta until just under al dente.
- While the pasta is cooking, melt the butter in a separate saucepan. Add the flour and mustard and stir for 5 minutes. Make sure there are no lumps in the mixture. Pour in the milk, add the onion, bay leaf, and paprika. Simmer for 10 minutes, then remove the bay leaf.
- Beat the egg and add 3/4 of the cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Add the pasta mixture and pour into a 2-quart baking dish. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan and stir in the breadcrumbs. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the pasta. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
