Italian Sloppy Joe Sandwiches topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 450 g of ground beef tenderloin
- 225 g of minced pork
- 225 g of minced veal
- 1 tbsp. l. olive oil
- 2 crushed cloves of garlic
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 teaspoon dry Italian spice mix
- 1/4 cup dry white wine
- 1 can (800 g) of chopped tomatoes with juice
- 1/2 cup milk
- Coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 8 slices aged provolone cheese
- 8 sub sandwich buns (mini baguettes)
- Marinated vegetables jardiniere to serve, drizzle with oil
- Chianti, for serving
Preparation:
- Heat olive oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add ground beef, pork, and veal and cook until no longer pink, about 10 minutes. Remove the meat with a slotted spoon and transfer to a bowl, reserving any juices and fat in the Dutch oven.
- In a Dutch oven, sauté the garlic and onion with Italian seasoning, stirring frequently to prevent burning. When the onion is translucent, add the meat back and add the wine to deglaze. Add the tomatoes and milk and bring to a simmer, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens, about 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Place a slice of cheese on each bun. Top with the meat, and top with the marinated vegetables. Serve with a bottle of Chianti.
