Spicy burgers with cucumbers and yogurt

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cucumber, peeled and seeded (optional), finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup low-fat natural yogurt
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 550 g lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1 clove of garlic, finely grated
  • 1.5 tsp red or yellow curry powder
  • 1 tbsp. l. olive oil
  • 4 hamburger buns, halved and toasted
  • Potato chips, for serving (optional)
  • Pickled okra or other pickled vegetables, for serving (optional)

Preparation:

  1. In a bowl, combine chopped cucumber, yogurt, cilantro, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and pepper to taste.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, curry powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Form the ground beef into four round patties, each 10 cm in diameter and 1.5 cm thick.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large cast-iron skillet. Place the patties in the skillet and fry on both sides until cooked through.
  4. Place the patties on the bottom halves of the buns. Spread the yogurt mixture on top and cover with the top halves. Serve the burgers with potato chips and pickled vegetables.
